Global credits and other credit types

How to offer carbon credits other than New Zealand Units, and what the review covers.

New Zealand Units are the credit traded on Carbon Trader®, and holders list them themselves from Sell NZUs. Other credit types, such as international or New Zealand voluntary credits, are not listed from the dashboard. They are offered to us first, through a form, and reviewed before anything is listed.

Offering other credits

Use the other credit types form. It asks for your organisation and contact details, the kind of supplier you are, the jurisdiction, the credit types, an estimated volume, the project name and the registry or standard. No account is needed to send it.

What the review covers

Carbon Trader looks at the things a buyer would otherwise have to find out for themselves:

  • the standard and registry that issued and hold the credits, the methodology, the vintage and the host country;
  • proof that the credits are yours to sell;
  • what the credit can be claimed for, and what it cannot.

Sending the form does not guarantee a listing. We reply to the contact on the form. Review fees, where they apply, are on the fee schedule.

Credit classes are not interchangeable

Only an NZU can be surrendered against a New Zealand ETS obligation. International voluntary credits are not NZ ETS eligible, and a nature or biodiversity credit is not automatically a carbon offset. Any listing of another credit type says plainly what it is. Carbon credit types, quality and claims explains the differences.

Evidence and claims

Nothing on Carbon Trader is advice on whether a credit suits a particular claim. A public environmental claim is the responsibility of the person making it. See Records, evidence and claims.
