Wallet and custody

Holding units in a Carbon Trader® wallet, listing from it and withdrawing to a Register account.

The Custody wallet screen in your dashboard is for units held for you by Carbon Trader.

What the wallet is used for

  • Holding purchased NZUs in Carbon Trader custody.
  • Supplying NZUs for listings sold from the wallet.
  • Seeing the history of what has moved in and out.
  • Asking for units to be delivered to an Emissions Trading Register account.
  • Downloading custody statements.

The Register remains the official record of unit holdings and transfers. See Wallet and custody on the main site for how custody works.

Listings sold from the wallet

When you list units from your wallet, the quantity is reserved so the same units cannot be committed twice, and the lot is published straight away. A wallet lot always sells with escrow, and a sale into another wallet completes automatically once the buyer's payment clears. If the listing is withdrawn or closes without a sale, or a buyer does not pay in time, the reserved units go back to your available balance.

Listings sold from your own Register account

Units in your own Register account stay there while they are listed. The lot goes live once we have seen proof of the units. You can sell them with escrow or direct. See Selling NZUs: how to list.

Withdrawing units

You can have wallet units delivered to your own Emissions Trading Register account at any time, including for surrender ahead of the 31 May deadline.

  1. Open Custody wallet.
  2. Enter the quantity. The units go to the Register account saved under Account details, so check it is right first.
  3. Choose the purpose: a transfer to your account, or delivery for surrender. A surrender delivery is tracked against the 31 May deadline, and the surrender delivery support fee on the fee schedule is invoiced once it is approved. Whether and when to surrender is your decision.
  4. Submit the request.
  5. A person at Carbon Trader makes the transfer on the Register and approves the withdrawal.

A withdrawal needs your identity to be confirmed. If it is not yet, the request waits until you have completed Confirm identity. If your Register account details changed in the last few days, we may contact you to confirm them before transferring.

A request shows as pending review, approved, rejected or cancelled.
