What you can do depends on three things: whether you have an account, whether your identity has been confirmed, and, for shared accounts, your role in the organisation.
| Stage | What it takes | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Visitor | Nothing. | Browse units for sale and wanted requests, use the calculators and data, read the fee schedule, send an enquiry. |
| Account holder | An email address and a password, or a Carbon Tracker® login. | List units with escrow or direct, save bank and Register account details, post a wanted request, create or join an organisation, buy a direct lot. |
| Identity confirmed | Your details and a certified copy of your ID, reviewed by a person. Asked for once, when a trade of yours first goes into escrow. | Buy an escrow-protected lot and pay for it, fund a wanted request, sell to a wanted request, be paid for an escrow sale, withdraw units from a Carbon Trader® wallet. |
Visitor
Without an account you can:
- view units for sale and wanted requests;
- use the calculators and data;
- view the fee schedule and estimate fees;
- send a contact enquiry.
Account holder
An account is created at Create a free account with your name, an email address and a password, and you are signed in as soon as you have confirmed the address. See Creating an account and confirming your identity.
Some actions have their own conditions, which are about the units or the money and not about you:
- A lot sold from your own Emissions Trading Register account goes live once we have seen proof of the units.
- A direct sale is only for units in the seller's own Register account going to the buyer's own Register account, so both need Register account details saved. The buyer also needs a confirmed email address, because the seller is given it.
- A wanted request is published once it has been funded into escrow.
- You need a wallet balance to sell from, or withdraw from, a Carbon Trader wallet.
Identity confirmed
Identity is confirmed once, for the buyer and the seller, when a trade first goes into escrow: the buyer before buying an escrow-protected lot or funding a wanted request, the seller before selling to a wanted request or, for a listing, before payout. It is done under Confirm identity in the dashboard. A direct sale does not go into escrow, and Carbon Trader does not check identity for it. Carbon Trader may still ask further questions about a particular escrow trade, such as where the funds or the units came from, and may hold a trade while it does.
Organisation roles
Organisation roles are customer roles inside an organisation account. They control what each person on the team can do for the organisation. From highest to lowest: owner, organisation admin, approver, finance, trader, viewer.
| Role | Typical purpose | Common abilities |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Highest organisation role. | Everything, including assigning another owner. Only an owner can change the organisation's approval thresholds or a person's approval limit, and nobody can change their own. |
| Organisation admin | Team manager. | Invite colleagues, change roles and remove people. Can approve held trades, including the largest. |
| Approver | Approval workflow user. | Approve or decline trades held above the organisation's limits, up to their own limit. A person cannot approve their own request. |
| Finance | Finance and settlement user. | See the organisation's billing and finance exports. |
| Trader | Trading operator. | Create listings and wanted requests for the organisation. Anything over their limit is held for an approver. |
| Viewer | Oversight, auditors, read-only team members. | View organisation details and team. |
