Carbon Trader® keeps a record of every trade and every movement in your wallet. The New Zealand Emissions Trading Register remains the official record of who holds which units.
Your holdings
- Units in a Carbon Trader wallet are on the Custody wallet screen: available, reserved against a listing, and pending withdrawal, with the history of every movement in and out. Custody statements can be downloaded there.
- Units in your own Register account are shown in the Register itself, not on Carbon Trader. Carbon Trader has no access to your Register account.
If you track your forest, farm or obligations, Carbon Tracker® is the separate product for that.
The record a trade leaves
A completed escrow trade leaves a statement on its row under Settlements: what was bought, the price, the payment and the transfer. Reports exports your trades as CSV or JSON, each file with a SHA-256 fingerprint so you can show later that it is the one Carbon Trader produced. See Market data and reports.
A direct sale is settled between the buyer and the seller, so its payment and transfer records are your own bank statement and the Register's transfer record.
Claims
An NZU can be surrendered against a New Zealand ETS obligation. Other credit types support other claims, or none, and Carbon credit types, quality and claims explains the differences. Nothing on Carbon Trader is legal, accounting, tax or assurance advice on whether a credit suits a particular claim; a public environmental claim is the responsibility of the person making it.
Retirements
Carbon Trader does not retire or cancel units for you. To retire units held in your Carbon Trader wallet, withdraw them to your own Register account first (free) and retire them there.
Carbon Trader does not prepare evidence packs or review claims. The settlement statement for a trade and the Register's own records are the evidence of what you bought and what happened to it.
Delivering wallet units to your own Register account for surrender is done from the Custody wallet. See Wallet and custody.
