ETS compliance, without the annual scramble
If you operate a landfill, purchase coal or natural gas, or import HFCs, you owe NZUs every year. Carbon Trader® joins the three things nobody else connects - tracking what you owe, the 31 March and 31 May deadlines, and buying the units - on one escrow-protected marketplace.
What do you owe this year?
Surrender obligations are calculated from published statutory emissions factors - the same tables the EPA applies. Enter your activity below for an indicative liability in units. No account needed, and no price data - just the units.
Track it year-round with My Obligations
The free My Obligations dashboard keeps your liability live in your account: every obligated activity, your position against your custody wallet, the indicative cost at the last traded price when the market has one, a compliance calendar, and reminder notifications ahead of the 31 March return and 31 May surrender dates - with one click through to place a buy request for any shortfall.
Buying on Carbon Trader®
Browse live listings, place a buy request the market can fill, or open a private quote room for larger volumes. Every trade settles through managed escrow - funds and units held until both sides confirm - and custody wallet holdings are backed one-for-one by NZUs in our registry account. Fees are published on the fee schedule.
Who this fits
Disposal facility operators, coal purchasers and importers, natural gas purchasers, HFC and refrigerant importers, and any Schedule 4 opt-in participant managing its own obligations. Larger emitters with broker relationships are welcome too - the dashboard works alongside any execution channel.
Where this fits in the wider ETS environment
Carbon Trader® supports marketplace and settlement workflows. Emissions returns are filed with the EPA and units are surrendered through the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register - the dashboard shows statutory dates and indicative figures, and never files or surrenders on your behalf. Nothing on this page is financial, legal or tax advice.
