Carbon Trader® service

NZU auctions and bidding

Carbon Trader® supports auction-based NZU trading where sellers can present a defined lot and buyers can participate through controlled account-based bidding.

Structured bidding, not informal email trails

Auction activity is managed through the platform so important details such as price, quantity, timing and settlement status can be recorded in one place. This gives sellers and buyers a clearer process than relying on separate emails, manual spreadsheets or unverified expressions of interest.

Seller control and buyer visibility

Sellers can use auction-style listings where competitive interest is appropriate. Buyers can review the available information, sign in to act and follow the trade through their account once a transaction is created.

Buy-now where appropriate

Some listings may support a buy-now pathway when price and quantity are already clear. This gives participants a faster option without losing the benefit of controlled settlement records and account-based communication.

Operational checkpoints

Auction outcomes still need settlement discipline. Carbon Trader® keeps the transaction visible through escrow, NZU delivery and completion stages so both sides can see the progress of the trade.

Where this fits in the wider ETS environment

Carbon Trader® is designed to support marketplace and settlement workflows, while the official ETS system remains the record infrastructure for unit holdings and transfers. Participants can read more about ETS accounts through the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register and should make sure their own account details are accurate before requesting delivery outside the Carbon Trader® wallet.
